PINAY
by Jack

Though born and raised a Filipina
she struggles with her mind
Fighting back the longing
to leave her life behind
Family is still dear to her
as is honesty and good
And if she could change it all today
she's still not certain that she would
The battles in her heart and soul
she tries to overcome
In hopes that she wont loose herself
nor her precious freedom
To look into the mirror
is her life a lie
Sometimes she can't hold it back
and she breaks down and cries
Life's path's not always easy
and the journey might be slow
So Lord will you protect her
where ever she may go

No title by my good friend Tet
Sumindi na mga ilaw sa poste,
Ipahid na ang iyong kolorete,
Oras na para aliwin, mga buwitre
na kung saang bansa nanggaling.
Ibuka na ang iyong talulot,
at tiisin ang mahapding turok ng
makamandag na bubuyog.
Bukas ikaw ay aking hihintayin
sa dating tagpuan natin
Sa kandungan ko ay walang pait
kungdi ligaya na hanggang langit.

A Night like These
by Ming 8/99

a night like these
in absolute darkness
where the silhouette is a mixture
shades of black and gray
outlined by trees
except for the twinkling lights of the fireflies hovering,
faint lights from a fisherman's boat
from the sea
an array of stars studs the deepness of the night
in absolute blackness

a night like these
where the oceans roar to a soothing rhythm
and the cats shrill cry in passion
and the humming of the fan
lures me to sleep
and let me forget my loneliness

for I sit here alone
contemplating about my life
my past, present, and future dreams and schemes
going through the motions of living day by day
feeling and and absorbing life
to it's fullest
welcoming death any second, any moment
ready to confront my maker
when he asks me the question
what have you done?

what am I doing?
I seek strength and light in my solitude
to understand and grasp the meaning of every action
but then again,
I still don't find any answers
and I'm led back into the absolute blackness
and mystery of the deep night
that swallows me
and not a twinkling of light from fireflies,
nor from the fisherman's night raft,
nor the studded magnificence of the star,
give me the light
nor the hope
to understand the riddles of life
the puzzling absolute grayness
of my moods
scratching my soul,
carving open wounds
seeking instant remedies
and short cuts to happiness

happiness
are nights like these,
where the oceans lull me to sleep
and the stillness of the moment
caress my loneliness
and I'm left alone
just me, by myself,
basking into the fullness
and deepness of the night
in absolute blackness

HOME
(Paradise is where your heart is....)
by Ming

No roots, no country, no home, no family
I try to be as happy as I can be
Like a bird,
flying, soaring in the sky,
greeting the heavens,
I ask why?
Why can't you take me with you for a joyride?
Bring me to a place,
where serenity reigns,
and my heart stops yearning,
for things i'll never have.
Help me see, my friend
the beauty of every painful situation
bestowed on me.
Fly into the sky,
and take my dreams with you,
my hopes, my fears, and my fantasies.
Is someone out there watching, waiting?
Because I'm really tired of searching for my lost soul,
belonging to no one.
Take me to a place,
where my restlessness ceases,
and I can bathe in love and splendor,
a place they call
"HOME"

THE ROOM

By Maria Victoria Beltran read by Geli in a Valentine's Poetry Reading in Cebu

We drive inside
the dark garage
climb up-
the narrow stairs
I hear footsteps
deep in my head
while my heartbeat
drowns my chest,
I taste flowers
smell its scent
but the room is naked
the tree is bare,
I do not remember
what happened next-
your gentle touch
I strongly felt.
I look, around me-
What is this room?
It is strong
and square-
It gives fire
within my rage,
We tread with
lowered eyelids here
And softly go
behind the blinds,
But hearts may cry
like loaded guns
Brains may yell
in silent hush
And windows soar
from wordless beds
While walls explode
with a violent rush-
Inside- this room
that is neither mine
nor yours alone.

Thanks Bambi
Ayaw
By Maria Victoria Beltran

More from Bambi
Tonight
By Maria Victoria Beltran

I will give away
my chastity
open my moon-
and I will yield
entirely, totally
Madness shall claim
me and fire
shall possess me,
I will swim
through the waves
grasp the wind
of the stormy sea.
And you who plucks
me on this starless
night of Eros
from the haughty
branch where I perched
in full bloom,
You who glide
between my branches
to caress my
raging fire
shall hold me
when I fall-
when we fall
and resist gravity-

Dearest Mom

You left before I could say goodbye
I don't know how or why,
I thought you would outlive us all
with your consistent generosity.

Now that you are gone
I feel you much closer to me
and you have me doing the things,
exactly how you want them to be.

You did not give me a chance
to say," I love you"
to get to know you,
your life has been one big mystery.

All I have are memories of you,
a treasury of your journals and prayers
imprints of the pious life you have led,
as the puzzle unravels.

So much questions still remain unanswered
though bits and pieces have been falling in place
the picture gets clearer
as you visit me in my dreams.

Now I understand,
why goodbyes were not necessary
because YOU....
have never left me.

Is it the beginning or the end?
Is it the beginning
or is it the end?
If hello means saying good-bye,
why even try?

Wanting to say so much,
but there was never time ,
never room enough to grow,
words were better left unsaid
the silence...
they still say so much.

My heart has gone through this pain before,
it breaks and it mends in it's own time,
picking the same people
to go on,
breaking it all over again.

Welcome to my Poetry Corner
Got a poem? Share it! Writing and collecting poetry is one of my favorite pastimes. I find writing poetry_therapeutical!It was also a habit, I developed when I was on the road a lot. I was constantly waiting for planes, buses, rides, and people, so I scribbled me a line or two. When I felt especially destructive, I try to become constructive, by scribbling myself a few lines.
It's all about feelings, and expressing yourself.
To me, life is all about tapping this creative energy.
