THE ROOM

By Maria Victoria Beltran read by Geli in a Valentine's Poetry Reading in Cebu

We drive inside
the dark garage
climb up-
the narrow stairs
I hear footsteps
deep in my head
while my heartbeat
drowns my chest,
I taste flowers
smell its scent
but the room is naked
the tree is bare,
I do not remember
what happened next-
your gentle touch
I strongly felt.
I look, around me-
What is this room?
It is strong
and square-
It gives fire
within my rage,
We tread with
lowered eyelids here
And softly go
behind the blinds,
But hearts may cry
like loaded guns
Brains may yell
in silent hush
And windows soar
from wordless beds
While walls explode
with a violent rush-
Inside- this room
that is neither mine
nor yours alone.
